Nürburg. Two championship races were on the agenda for the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring (PETN) this weekend. At the double-header of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS), the Porsche one-make series once again provided the two strongest classes in the field. In both four-hour races, 48 LOSCH Motorsport by BLACK FALCON (#948) with Tobias Müller, Noah Nagelsdiek and Carlos Rivas won the Cup 2 class, thereby reducing the gap to the championship leaders. In the Cup 3 class, Heiko Eichenberg and Harley Haughton from SRS Team Sorg Rennsport (#959) won on Saturday, while Leonard and Moritz Oehme celebrated their first class victory for Team 9und11 (#944) on Sunday. In addition, four-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen completed his mandatory laps to obtain the DMSB Nordschleife permit in the PETN during Saturday's race.
Changing conditions made for an exciting Saturday race
After four consecutive second places, 48 LOSCH Motorsport by BLACK FALCON (#948) celebrated its first victory of the PETN-season in the Cup 2 class in Saturday's race. Starting from pole position, Tobias Müller, Noah Nagelsdiek and Carlos Rivas battled with strong competition from the outset and, in changeable conditions, ultimately prevailed against championship leaders David Jahn, Arne Hoffmeister and Tim Scheerbarth from Mühlner Motorsport (#921). Third place went to Patrik Grütter and Fabio Grosse from SRS Team Sorg Rennsport (#901), who also won the PRO/AM classification. This allowed Grütter and Grosse (PRO) to close the gap in the championship to Peter Ludwig, Maik Rosenberg and Alexander Hardt (PRO) from BLACK FALCON Team ZIMMERMANN (#900), who finished Saturday's race in second place in the PRO/AM classification. They shared the podium with Alex Koch, Klaus Koch and Niklas Koch, who also won the AM classification.
Tobias Müller was honoured as ‘Driver of the Race’ in Saturday's race, having had a busy schedule with a double start. While he placed the 911 GT3 R from BLACK FALCON Team EAE (#48) on the front row in qualifying in the morning, he achieved pole position in the Cup 2 class in the 911 GT3 Cup (992) from 48 LOSCH Motorsport by BLACK FALCON (#948). The experienced PETN driver continued his strong performance in the race, leading the 911 GT3 R to third place overall, while also securing class victory in the Cup 2 class.
„The double start was a great experience. Of course, it was also very exhausting, but with the results, it was a really good day. I am very pleased to have been named Driver of the Race. In Cup 2, it finally worked out and were able to secure pole position as well as the class victory," summarises Tobias Müller.
The podium in the Cup 3 class was particularly competitive in Saturday's race. The battle between SRS Team Sorg Rennsport (#959) and W&S Motorsport (#962), which lasted throughout the entire race, was ultimately won by Heiko Eichenberg and Harley Haughton in car number 959. They finished the race ahead of Joshua Bednarski, Kai Riemer and Lorenz Stegmann (#962).
„It was a perfect race. We had a really good battle with W&S right from the start. I felt really comfortable in the car and then Heiko took over as the rain started to fall. He is a very good driver in the rain so it was the perfect decision. He managed to keep the car on track and we won the race,” says PETN Talent Pool driver Harley Haughton.
The battle for third place was even closer: with a gap of just 0.160 seconds, Team 9und11 (#944) with Leonard Oehme and Moritz Oehme crossed the finish line ahead of Adrenalin Motorsport Team Mainhattan Wheels (#940) with Yannick Fübrich, Oskar Sandberg and Nico Silva. In the PRO/AM classification, Horst Baumann, Markus Schmickler and Stefan Schmickler (PRO) from Schmickler Performance powered by Ravenol (#950) extended their championship lead. They won the race ahead of Nick Deißler, Stefan Kruse and Aaron Wenisch from Adrenalin Motorsport Team Mainhattan Wheels (#941) and Marc Arn, Desiree Müller and Tim Lukas Müller from EiFelkind Racing (#977). Deißler, Kruse and Wenisch also won the AM classification with this result.
Max Verstappen obtains DMSB permit Nordschleife with PETN team
Max Verstappen competed in the PETN this weekend to obtain his DMSB Permit Nordschleife. The four-time Formula 1 world champion completed the required 14 laps in a power-reduced Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS (982) with Lionspeed GP (980). He placed the car sixth in the Cup 3 class in qualifying and finished the race in seventh place alongside his teammate Christopher Lulham.
The two championship leaders leave points on the table – Team 9und11 wins the class with consistency
In contrast to the previous day, Sunday's race took place in dry conditions. As in race one, it was up to cars 921 and 948 to decide who would take the victory in the Cup 2 class. For the second time in a row, Tobias Müller, Noah Nagelsdiek and Carlos Rivas from 48 LOSCH Motorsport by BLACK FALCON came out on top, reducing the gap in the championship to Mühlner Motorsport (#921) with David Jahn, Arne Hoffmeister and Tim Scheerbarth to 5.5 points. The winners from the previous day also repeated their success in the PRO/AM classification: Patrik Grütter and Fabio Grosse (PRO) from SRS Team Sorg Rennsport (#901) won again ahead of Peter Ludwig, Maik Rosenberg and Alexander Hardt (PRO) from BLACK FALCON Team ZIMMERMANN (#900), taking the lead in the championship. The podium was completed by AM winners Robin Chrzanowski, Kersten Jodexnis and Peter Scharmach from Clickversicherung Team (#919).
„The whole weekend was great fun and we are back at the top of the PRO/AM standings. Patrik did a great job and performed particularly well in Sunday's race, taking the lead in the penultimate lap. Now we are looking forward to the last two races and the championship decision," says Fabio Grosse.
In the Cup 3 class, Leonard Oehme and PETN Talent Pool driver Moritz Oehme from Team 9und11 (#944) secured their first class victory. With a consistent performance, they benefited from their competitors' mistakes and stood on the top step of the podium in class for the first time.
„Of course, it's something very special to clinch the first class victory together with my brother. It has always been our dream to win the class, and we are extremely happy that we were able to fulfil this dream – the hard work has paid off," explains Moritz Oehme.
Second place and another PRO/AM victory went to Horst Baumann, Markus Schmickler and Stefan Schmickler (PRO) from Schmickler Performance (#950). The Cup 3 class podium was completed by Joshua Bednarski, Lorenz Stegmann and Kai Riemer from W&S Motorsport (#962), who were relegated due to a penalty. Pole setters Heiko Eichenberg and Harley Haughton from SRS Team Sorg Rennsport (#959) were unable to finish the race due to an accident. In the PRO/AM classification, AM winners Nick Deißler, Stefan Kruse and Aaron Wenisch from Adrenalin Motorsport Team Mainhattan Wheels (#941) finished the race in second place ahead of Tommy Graberg and the two PETN Talent Pool drivers Joshua Hislop and Jan-Niklas Stieler from SRS Team Sorg Rennsport (#969).
The championship showdown will kick off in just two weeks. The penultimate race of the PETN season will take place on 27 September and will cover a distance of four hours.
