Nürburg. The fourth race of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring (PETN) season, as part of the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS), was the KW 6h ADAC Ruhr Cup race. Dense fog meant that the start of the NLS season highlight could not take place until 14:00, shortening the race distance to four and a half hours. Nevertheless, the race was awarded 1.5 times the points due to the longer distance. David Jahn, Arne Hoffmeister and Tim Scheerbarth from Mühlner Motorsport (#921) secured the all the more important victory in Cup 2, while W&S Motorsport (#962) with Joshua Bednarski and Lorenz Stegmann won in Cup 3 class. Off the racetrack, Manthey once again offered the PETN Talent Pool a comprehensive range of training courses and a guided mountain bike tour with GIANT.
In contrast to the hot and dry conditions of the previous days, the PETN teams and drivers were confronted with heavy fog and cool temperatures on Saturday morning. The poor visibility meant that the schedule could not be followed as planned, so qualifying was postponed to 12:00 and shortened to 40 minutes. Tobias Müller put the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) from 48 LOSCH Motorsport by BLACK FALCON on pole position in Cup 2 class with a lap time of 8:15.380 minutes, as well as third starting place overall. In the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS (982) from SRS Team Sorg Rennsport (#959), Harley Haughton set a lap time of 8:46.630 minutes to secure pole position in Cup 3 class.
Mühlner Motorsport prevails once again against strong competition in Cup 2 class
Starting from pole position, Tobias Müller in the number 948 from 48 LOSCH Motorsport by BLACK FALCON led the Cup 2 class into the race before David Jahn from Mühlner Motorsport (#921) took the lead in the second stint. Despite strong driving performances from Müller and his teammates Noah Nagelsdiek and Carlos Rivas, Jahn, Hoffmeister and Scheerbarth maintained their lead and won the race ahead of them. With four wins in four races, the Belgian team has a clean slate in the PETN championship standings. The new ‘Driver of the Race’ award introduced by the organisers went to class winner David Jahn this weekend.
„Even though we had hoped to drive for six hours today, it was a great race. It's really nice that we were able to take home the full points. We had no incidents and everything went smoothly. I also had a great overtaking manoeuvre with Carlos (Rivas). It was close, but he played along well and I was named “Driver of the Race”, which makes me very happy," summarised David Jahn.
Mühlner Motorsport also celebrated another podium finish with third place for the sister car (#904) driven by Ben Bünnagel, Ivan Peklin and Janis Waldow.
In the PRO/AM classification, victory once again went to Patrik Grütter and PRO-driver Fabio Grosse from SRS Team Sorg Rennsport (#901).
„One and a half points feel good, even though we only drove for four and a half hours. The race was fun and the car held up really well, even after the demanding 24-hour race. It’s great to be back after the summer break,” said Fabio Grosse.
Second place went to Maik Rosenberg and Peter Ludwig with PRO-driver Alexander Hardt from BLACK FALCON Team Zimmermann (#900) ahead of Karsten Krämer, Florian Naumann and Peter Sander with PRO-driver “Leo Messenger” from KKrämer Racing (#909). Victory in the AM classification for amateur-only driver pairings went to Robin Chrzanowski, Kersten Jodexnis and Richard-Sven Karl Jodexnis from Clickversicherung Team (#919).
Drama for Adrenalin Motorsport – W&S Motorsport wins Cup 3 class
In Cup 3 class, the battle for class victory intensified in the final laps, leading to numerous lead changes between the #962 car driven by Joshua Bednarski and Lorenz Stegmann and the 718 Cayman GT4 CS (982) from Adrenalin Motorsport Team Mainhattan Wheels (#940) with David Griessner, Oskar Sandberg and Nico Silva. Although final driver Sandberg led the class in the final lap, a time penalty imposed on the 940 after a collision paved the way for victory for W&S Motorsport (#962). But things got even worse for Sandberg: due to running out of fuel, he came to a halt just a few metres before the finish line and was unable to finish the race. Second place went to brothers Leonard Oehme and Moritz Oehme from Team 9und11 (#944). The podium was completed by Schmickler Performance powered by Ravenol (#950) with Horst Baumann, Markus Schmickler and Stefan Schmickler.
„We are extremely pleased with today's victory. The guys from Adrenalin were exceptionally fast and provided us with some good battles. Despite finishing second, we were on course for victory due to the time penalty, but the way it turned out in the end is of course unfortunate. However, we are very happy about the important points for the championship,” said Lorenz Stegmann.
Horst Baumann, Markus Schmickler and PRO-driver Stefan Schmickler secured victory in the PRO/AM classification with their podium finish. Joining him on the podium were Franz Linden and Rüdiger Schicht with PRO-driver Alexander Fielenbach from speedworxx automotive (#955) as well as Nick Deißler, Stefan Kruse and Aaron Wenisch from Adrenalin Motorsport Team Mainhattan Wheels (#941). As the best-placed AM trio, Deißler, Kruse and Wenisch also secured victory in the AM classification of the Cup 3 class.
„I am very happy that we were able to secure our first win of the season. We all made the most of our performance and the team prepared the car perfectly. We are absolutely thrilled, especially with third place in the PRO/AM category,” summarised Stefan Kruse.
Pole setters Heiko Eichenberg and Harley Haughton from SRS Team Sorg Rennsport (#959) fell back due to an early accident and finished the race in eighth place in their class.
Workshops and mountain bike tour for the PETN Talent Pool
In the run-up to the six-hour race, Manthey once again invited the PETN Talent Pool to Meuspath. In a training session on the Micro Sector Report, a Manthey engineer showed the juniors how they can analyse and compare their driving style in detail. The Micro Sector Report is issued individually to the drivers by the PETN after each race and supports them in their driving development. In addition, the juniors were given a Porsche Toolset training course to familiarise themselves with the electrical adjustment options of their vehicles. The informative day was rounded off with a guided mountain bike tour around the Nordschleife on e-bikes provided by GIANT Bicycles. The tour was led by Manthey test and development driver Christoph Breuer, who not only has thousands of laps of experience on the Nordschleife, but also knows the mountain bike trails next to the Nordschleife like the back of his hand.
After a four-week break, the action continues on 13 and 14 September with a double header: the 65th ADAC ACAS Cup and the 64th ADAC Reinoldus Endurance Race both cover a distance of four hours.
