Mühlner Motorsport is Cup 2 and W&S Motorsport Cup 3 Champion of the PETN 2025
Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring
- Jahn, Hoffmeister, Scheerbarth and Mühlner Motorsport (#921) decide close Cup 2 Championship battle in their favour
- W&S Motorsport (#962) and Bednarski with Stegmann are Cup 3 Champions for the second time in a row
- New lap records in both classes during Qualifying
Nürburg. With two championship titles still up for grabs, the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring (PETN) headed into its season finale as part of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS). After the PRO/AM and AM champions in both classes had already been decided in the penultimate race, the Cup 2 and Cup 3 overall standings were still completely open going into the season finale. In an exciting final race under difficult conditions, David Jahn, Arne Hoffmeister and Tim Scheerbarth from Mühlner Motorsport (#921) prevailed to become Cup 2 Driver and Team Champions. As the driver pairing with the most points from both classes, they are also PETN Overall Champion 2025. In the Cup 3 class, last year's winners W&S Motorsport (#962) repeated their success and are Cup 3 Team Champions, while last year's champion Joshua Bednarski shares the driver title this year with Lorenz Stegmann. Tobias Müller and Harley Haughton broke the lap records in both classes in ideal conditions during qualifying and secured pole position for their cars.
Qualifying on Saturday morning took place in cool and dry conditions. Tobias Müller set the record in the Cup 2 class with a time of 8:03.508 minutes, putting the 911 GT3 Cup (992) from 48 LOSCH Motorsport by BLACK FALCON (#948) on pole position and securing an additional championship point for himself and his teammates Noah Nagelsdiek and Carlos Rivas. In the Cup 3 class, PETN Talent Pool driver Harley Haughton from SRS Team Sorg Rennsport (#959) was the fastest and secured pole position. With a time of 8:31.104 minutes, he drove the fastest lap ever in a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS (982) on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Cup 2 collects leading kilometres in difficult conditions
Starting driver Tobias Müller from 48 LOSCH Motorsport by BLACK FALCON (#948) took advantage of the difficult conditions right at the beginning of the race and moved up to second place overall at the start. In slippery track conditions, he even took the lead on lap two and racked up kilometres at the front of the field before handing it back to the SP9 cars later in the first stint. The trio led the Cup 2 class until shortly before the end of the race, but a collision on the final lap led to a retirement, allowing the close pursuers Mühlner Motorsport (#921) with David Jahn, Arne Hoffmeister and Tim Scheerbarth to take the class victory. The retirement had no impact on the championship decision, as Mühlner Motorsport would have won the championship with a second place even if the number 948 car had won. With this result, the Mühlner Motorsport trio are also PETN Overall Champions 2025 and thus the first Cup 2 driver pairing to win this title
„The race was tricky due to the mixed conditions, but we kept the car on the track and were able to take the class victory again. It's great to win the championship after I came so close in 2022. This was my fourth year in PETN and it's fantastic that it's finally worked out. There were some great races and exciting battles – especially today, when Tobias Müller and I fought for the lap record in qualifying. I came up short today, but I did hold the lap record for a year. Maybe I'll get it back again someday. All in all, it was a great season in a great series – it was really good fun," summarises David Jahn.
Third place went to Fabio Grosse and Patrik Grütter from SRS Team Sorg Rennsport (#901). In the PRO/AM classification, the champions Maik Rosenberg, Peter Ludwig and Alexander Hardt from BLACK FALCON Team ZIMMERMANN (#900), who had already secured the title since the last race, won ahead of Alex Koch, Klaus Koch and Niklas Koch from Smyrlis Racing (#910), who were supported this weekend by team principal Ioannis Smyrlis. The quartet was also victorious in the AM classification.
„I am very happy with how the season went. The guys did a great job and the drivers improved steadily – I think the results show that. I'm really proud of everyone and hope that next year will be just as successful. After Alex and Niklas clinched the championship last time, I couldn't resist getting back behind the wheel myself today after six years. It was really good fun and it's even better to be celebrating another victory with the guys today," explains Ioannis Smyrlis.
W&S Motorsport is back-to-back Champion in the Cup 3 class
In the Cup 3 class, four teams still had a chance of winning the title before the race. Going into the season finale, W&S Motorsport (#962) led the class by a razor-thin margin of three and a half points ahead of PRO/AM champions Schmickler Performance (#950). The SRS Team Sorg Rennsport (#959) was also still in contention for the championship, trailing the leaders by 12 points. Leonard Oehme and Moritz Oehme from Team 9und11 (#944) also still had a chance to win the Cup 3 class title. After an eventful race, Joshua Bednarski and Lorenz Stegmann (#962) took the class victory in the Cup 3 class, crowning themselves Cup 3 Driver Champions and their team W&S Motorsport Team Champion. Bednarski and the team from Ofterdingen thus repeated their success from the previous year.
„For me, this is really special as it's only my second season in the PETN and I've now won the Cup 3 title twice. We had a difficult start to the season, missing some important points early on, but we kept our spirits up, trusted in our team, and ultimately came back with the championship win. The competition was particularly tough this year, with some very fast drivers, so it’s a great honour to end my second season with another title with W&S Motorsport,” says Joshua Bednarski.
In the PRO/AM classification, an AM team secured victory for the first time in this race. Nick Deißler, Stefan Kruse and Aaron Wenisch from the Adrenalin Motorsport Team Mainhattan Wheels (#941), who had already secured the Cup 3 AM championship title in the last race, won both the PRO/AM and AM classifications.
„We are extremely satisfied – we have secured our fifth AM victory in a row and our first PRO/AM victory in very difficult conditions. It has been a fantastic season and a lot of fun. Many thanks to the entire team, my fellow drivers and also to Porsche," says Stefan Kruse.
The podium was completed by the two PRO/AM line-ups from SRS Team Sorg Rennsport. Tommy Graberg, Joshua Hislop and Jan-Niklas Stieler (#969) took second place ahead of Stefan Beyer, Kasparas Vingilis and Bernhard Wagner in the sister car with starting number 949.
Season Closing of the PETN and the Talent Pool
To celebrate together once more before the winter break and look back on the season, the PETN hosted a season closing party in the PETN lounge on Saturday evening. In the run-up to the final race weekend, a closing event was also held for the PETN Talent Pool. During a workshop on the 911 GT3 R, the talents gained insights into Manthey's GT team and got to know Thomas Preining's ‘Grello’ from the DTM. They also competed against each other and the Manthey mechanics in a pit stop challenge. The day was rounded off with a bike tour together with GIANT around the Nürburgring GP circuit.
The PETN annual awards ceremony will take place during the NLS Night of Champions on 13 December.
